A Fall of Events and Writing in Pictures

Okay, so it’s been a crazy busy fall here. Bookish events abounded; I added over 10,000 words to ELIXIR SAVED in November (so close to finishing this draft finally and really pushing to make my end of year deadline on it); and lots of soccer, school things, and fun stuff with the boys. Now that December is here, the craziness of the holiday season had already started.

So it’s a picture post! (From top to bottom: A book signing event at Barnes & Noble, the boys playing in the driveway, Halloween cookies, Halloween night, writing workshop for kids at the Norwalk Public Library, voting on Election Day, One City One Story event at the Milford Public Library, the two older boys reading PIRATE ISLAND in the green screen pirate ship at the One City One Story event, and a snowy Mark Twain House for the New England SCBWI Day of Craft.) Pop down to the comments and share what you all have been up to.

Last Minute Trip to Boston in Pictures

The story of my traveling life is often one of mishaps when plans go awry, usually because of circumstances I have no control over. (For a taste of this, see my posts “Tahiti Tsumani experience: Part 1” and “Part 2” or my guest post on Meradeth Houston’s blog about trying to get to Alaska to run a marathon “Katie Carroll and Sary in the Real World.”) So when our plans to visit a family member’s farm in upstate NY didn’t work out because of issues with their well, the hubby and I scrambled to come up with a new plan.

And that plan ended up being a trip to Boston! We stayed just one night, but we packed it full of fun, and fun for the boy always includes visiting firehouses. We also went to the Boston Museum of Science where we got to see what it would be like to be on the International Space Station (The Prince’s favorite part of the museum) and see the dinosaur bones (The Boy’s favorite part).

Here are some pics from our trip and one from The Gentleman’s birthday because a first birthday is a big deal!

How have your summer plans been going?

PIRATE ISLAND Launch Party Wrap-Up

It’s been over a week since the PIRATE ISLAND launch party at the Milford Public Library and I’m still feeling full of love and gratitude for everyone who helped me celebrate my book. Whether you made it to the event, dropped me a note to say good luck, or bought my book when it first came out last October, I’m so grateful for all of you who continue to support me on this crazy journey of being an author.

There was talk of Captain Kidd and the thrice-cursed Charles Island (the real island that inspired the book), books were signed cookies were eaten, fish were caught, prizes were won, and pictures were taken at the pirate ship photo booth. It was a whirlwind, so much so that I didn’t take any pictures. Luckily, my mom and one of the librarians took a bunch and shared them. So here are a few shots!

Fall 2017 in Pictures and Looking Toward 2018

The hustle and bustle of the season is in full swing here at chateau Carroll. The boys have been making out their Christmas lists for Santa, we’ve been baking, and I’ve been fitting in a few words here and there on Elixir Saved. So that means it’s time for a picture post!

But before we get to that, I’ve been thinking about what I’ll be blogging about next year. I’d like take some time to feature some books and authors I’ve been enjoying, but in a way I haven’t done before on the Observation Desk. I also haven’t officially introduced The Gentleman here on the blog, though he’s now 5 months old (sorry third kiddo!). So I might try and get a feature on his birth story up here, ya know, before his first birthday. 😉 I have some fun news in the works that I’ll be sharing soon. And I think I’d like to talk more about creativity in 2018, particularly as it fits into my life as a writer/mom.

And now to look back on fall:
