Little Changes in Little Spaces

I don’t particularly love my house or my yard. They’re not terrible, but there are a lto of big things I would change if I had the means (or perhaps I would move!). So I’m always trying to create spaces that inspire me give me a sense of peace. As a writer and a parent, the inspiration part is a little easier than the peace part.

I’ve always put lots of love into my gardens (both flower and veggie), but lately I’ve been making small changes in other way. They have begun to add up to make a better yard, one that I find myself wanting to be in more often and engages lots of my senses.

Here are my little yard spaces in pictures (and the two little guys in the last picture always spruce up the place!):

Ooooh, I love the plants in the teapot and cup! I agree, little things make a huge difference.

Thanks! Those were from my baby shower when I was pregnant with The Boy. Five years later, I finally pulled them out and did something with them.

You hit the nail on the head, Katie. It’s the little details, and the small things that make a garden, a home, a room.
    P.S. I love yours!

Thanks, Mirka! For a long time, I thought we wouldn’t stay long in this house, so I didn’t bother. Now I know better. It always matters!

Lovely pictures. Flowers make a lot of difference in the looks of a yard and home. I have a lot of wild flowers that are so pretty. And your last picture is the best. They remind me of my boys when they were little, so long ago. Thanks for a glimpse into your home.

Thanks, Beverly! Flowers do make a huge difference. I’ve gotten better at figuring out which ones work in different spots in the yard. I am partial to that last picture two. 🙂

Love the blue hydrangea and it’s clever to place flowers in teapots!

It was a bad year for hydrangeas as most of the old growth died off in the winter (the kind we have grow their buds the year before, so if they don’t weather over, there are no flowers), so I was very happy to have a couple of little flowers on one of my plants. It’s hard to tell from the pictures of the teapots, but those are actually planters that are way bigger than teapots or cups I own. Otherwise, I would never have thought of putting flowers in them either! 🙂
